Sony has introduced its branded blue laser-based ProDATA (Professional Disc for DATA) solution kits for storage applications and backup. ProDATA drives pack up to 23 GB of storage capacity onto a single-sided optical disc. Being optical-based it allows for high-speed random access of files, making it suitable for both near-line and archival storage applications.

The range of ProDATA drives includes three models for simple integration into almost every environment: an internal SCSI, external SCSI and an external USB 2.0 version. They also feature 11 MB/second read and 9 MB/second write transfer speeds. The ProDATA solution kits also include disc-formatting software consisting of Software Architect's Disk TuneUp and Sony Professional Disc for DATA rewritable media. The media is encased in a resin cartridge to protect it from dust, fingerprints and other outside contaminants. 

Price: Internal SCSI model (BW-F101/A): Rs 162,000; External SCSI model (BW-RS101) and external USB 2.0 model (BW-RU101): Rs 180,000; Professional Disc for DATA media for both the write-once and rewritable version: Rs 2,430

Tata Telecom renamed

The communications solutions provider Tata Telecom will be now called Avaya GlobalConnect Ltd. The company has reconstituted its Board of Directors, and the new Chairman is Mr Mark Leigh. Avaya GlobalConnect will continue to offer end-to-end converged communications solutions to its customers.
