The ACi Emerald is a sleek multimedia laptop

that’s powered by a NiMH or Li-Ion battery. It runs on a Cyrix MediaGX 266 MHz

processor, and has 2 GB hard disk (upgradable to 6 GB), 32 MB RAM (upgradable to 64 MB), a

24x CD-ROM and 1.44 MB FDD. It sports a 12.1" color active-matrix display, and has a

64-bit graphics accelerator card with 2 MB SGRAM. The keyboard is large and spacious with

ample palm rest and has a trackpad. It has built-in speakers and micro-phone and provides

good-quality sound. The Emerald comes with the usual PCMCIA slots, and one each of serial,

parallel, IrDA 1.0, and USB ports.

The Emerald is a fast machine and takes less

than a minute to boot up. However, it lacks a network adapter and a modem. It comes

installed with Windows 95, Office 97, Netscape Communicator, and various diagnostic tools

and utilities.

The unit is priced at Rs 59,950. An Emerald

with Intel Pentium (233-300 MHz) is also available.

Overall, this is cheap laptop with all the

basic features.
