Aircel initiated a Transformation initiative along with Wipro to transform
itself from a regional operator to the one having a pan-India presence in mobile
operation. So, Aircel decided to build a new end to end IT stack and expand its
newer businesses on the OSS/BSS and other periphery systems and gradually
migrate the legacy business on it. Aircel architecture and services have been
framed using the SOA concepts and framework with an Enterprise Service Bus layer
coordinating and orchestrating all the interactions between any two systems in
the OSS-BSS ecosystem. All systems (like CRM, order management, inventory,
billing, provisioning, prepaid-IN, SDP) expose their services via the Enterprise
Service Bus. These services are registered in an enterprise wide registry of
business services, promoting easy service discovery. The process of registration
of new services requires documenting the design, data model updates, and
contract documents with details of the message structure and interface. All the
service artifacts related to design, contract documents, data models, WSDL
files, XSD documents are managed in an enterprise repository which is linked
with the enterprise registry to manage versioning of services. Aircel now has a
library of business services, provided by various systems in IT ecosystem, which
are used by all consumers of the services, promoting re-use of the services and
reducing the headache of maintaining multiple versions of services for
accomplishing the same task.
