New Update

Mutual funds (MF) have been traditionally a distribution-led 'pushed'

product. Close to 75000 IFA's (Independent Financial Advisors), the industry

reaches out to 3 crore investors mobilizing funds worth Rs 8 lakh crore. Though

the growth in the MF industry is good, it includes barely 3% of the earning

Indian population. Also, as most mutual fund transaction are paper based with

units in physical holdings, there is a certain amount of lead time that goes

into the due diligence and movement of funds, units.

This project was undertaken by BSE at the behest of the regulator (SEBI), with a
view to building a credible, robust and efficient platform for buying and

selling of mutual fund units through stock exchanges. STAR MF is a browser-based

front end order-routing electronic platform. Its architecture provides scalable

operation and flexible deployment options while ensuring data integrity for

improved performance. The system uses ASP.NET as browser based front end and

RDBMS as the back end database. It is a menu-driven user-friendly application

that takes very little time to learn for any new user. The platform is

feature-rich and highly flexible with following features: it has link-ups with

both depositories CDSL and NSDL, facility for one-time registration of clients,

bulk upload facilities for creating clients and order entry, back-office report

management features, and risk management facilities like transaction limits set

up at different levels like branch.
