For an electricity distribution organization, operations & maintenance
require data exchange and communication with related support functions like
Stores & Meter Management. Outage Management System is the main O&M (Operations
and Maintenance) module used for monitoring the electricity supply through
Grids, Sub Stations, Transformers, Feeders, and Cables etc. It was seamlessly
integrated with SAP R/3 to make the operations efficient. Each equipment such as
transformers, cables, etc have been assigned a SAP Code. The OMS was integrated
with GIS (Geographical Information System) so that the equipment used in O&M
could be tagged in GIS to find out fault locations with occurrence frequency.
This would save time in fault resolution as the team could be sent to the exact
location. The project entailed tuning, streamlining and integrating Outage
Management System, SAP & Meter Management, and GIS. Further the CMS (Complaint
Management System) was also plugged into CORE. A Complaint Management System was
setup for monitoring the complaints of consumers related to No Current, Meters
etc so that there is fast & efficient resolution with in the time frame. The
project impact: 90% complaints attended in less than 2 hrs, power outages
decreased by 98%, transformer failure rate was more than 15% which has now been
reduced to less than 1% and transfer of jobs related to consumer complaints is
now automated. As all the different functional applications are synced online
with CORE engine hence management reporting is fast and accurate, and mapping
all assets in GIS gives the exact location of the fault, thus minimizing
unnecessary digging, decrease in vehicular pollution and environmental
imbalance.
