Buffalo TeraStation Pro NAS

Meant for mid-sized businesses, the Buffalo TeraStation Pro

helps in expanding network storage. This device provides 1 TB space with all the

features such as RAID and user mgmt.

It helps configure the hard disks either in the spanning

mode or in the RAID 1 and RAID 5 for the reliability of the data. It also

supports Gigabit LAN and SATA drives ensure higher data transfer rate. To set it

up, plug in the device to the network and install the management console in any

of the systems on the network. After this, you can set up any of the drive modes

that you want. Also you have to enable the services that will be available and

the user rights for the accessing the space on this machine. You can allot

different access levels for different folders to each user. The easy back-up

application provides you with scheduled automated backup for the specified

files.

We put the  machine in RAID 5 mode to provide you with

three fourth of the total disk space. One fourth of the space is used to protect

the data. In this mode you will still be able to use and retrieve the data even

if any one of the hard disk fails. It took approximately three hours for the

parity structure completion.

This device provides you with the option for hot swapping of the drives so that

you can directly detach the drives while the device is running. So we detached

and formatted the drive, only to find that we were still able to use the data

despite loss of drive. It took less than two hours to actually bring the drive

back to normal condition.
