New Update

Previously, the entire compute server infrastructure of Cadence was scattered

across 12 small computer rooms across three buildings in their Noida Campus. The

huge amount of efforts required to maintain and manage a scattered

infrastructure needed the move to consolidate 12 small sized server rooms into

one large data center. The inefficiencies existed not just in maintaining the

rooms but also in cooling, effective utilization and cost of creating minimum

n+1 resiliency.

Three key challenges in front of the team were ensuring uptime, scalability

and energy efficiency. And after the deployment, the team was able to overcome

all these challenges in a brilliant manner. As a result, the new datacenter is

giving them around 100% of uptime since May 2007 and the energy efficiency or

PUE (power usage effectiveness) of the datacenter is around 81%. And as far as

the scalability is concerned , the modular approach of the power backup solution

has ensured that they did not have to commission an entire UPS power backup

capacity in the beginning.

As the datacenter utilization is going up, they can accordingly add

more UPS modules hence reducing upfront capital cost and wastage of unused

resources. Not only this, but the deployment has also reduced the IT support

cost as after the deployment there is around 30% of reduction in IT Trouble

tickets. It also has reduced air-conditioning expenses and reduced network

cabling due to consolidation. And finally, it is also benefiting the

organization because of the ease of manageability.
