New Update

Even if you have the latest computer system, there will be times when you wish to add new hardware to it. This can be anything from more RAM and a larger hard disk to new video cards, network cards or peripherals. PCQLinux 8.0 is smart enough to recognize most of the commonly used hardware devices automatically. You can make changes to your system’s hardware configuration whenever you want to and Kudzu–the hardware probing tool used by

PCQLinux 8.0–will try to recognize it during boot-up.

For instance, to change your display card, shut down the machine, remove the old card, put a new one in and restart. Kudzu hardware probing automatically detects the new hardware, asks you to remove the old hardware configuration, and identifies and then asks you to accept the new hardware configuration. It also installs drivers for new hardware. In case you swap a device when the system is running (for example, a serial mouse for a PS/2 mouse), then type “kudzu” in a terminal window to start the hardware probe.

Webmin–the main configuration utility for PCQLinux– also allows you to do certain hardware configurations, such as for hard disk RAID, CD-Burner, printers, etc. For this launch Webmin from your Web browser and select “Hardware” from its tool bar. In this screen, you will see all the hardware devices that can be configured through Webmin. You can click on each of these devices to configure them individually.

Adding, removing and configuring hardware devices in Linux has become much easier than before. So, feel free to experiment to your heart’s desire.

In the following articles, we will see how to configure some specific peripherals in PCQLinux 8.0
