Powergrid corporation of India, one of the largest power transmission
companies in the world have deployed this web based decision support system
which connects the entire Operations and Maintenance team of te company across
the country. It uses Share Point Portal technology and is populated with all
asset and maintenance details of the system, which can be extracted at any
location on a real time basis.
The system is designed to bring in Radical Performance Improvement in the
maintenance process. The challenge faced by POWERGRID before the deployment of
this project was the lack of a central databank, leading to a lack in
organization wise coordination.
Key benefits derived from this deployment include collaborative platform for
contributors, predesigned user friendly entry format, knowledge base of best
practices, integrity of data, extensive search capabilities, in-built alerts and
schedules, etc. Some expected returns out of this project are savings in
inventory cost, reduced downtime, and more efficiency.
