e-Picture frame

William D Strecker

Monday, June 19, 2000

The front end of this new device looks pretty much the same as your wood-and-glass picture frame. Routed to its back are some power and phone connections. Users plug in the cords, set up a photo account at the Ceiva Website—http://www.ceiva.com/—and the appliance dials into the account overnight to download and display digital images. The whole unit is powered by an internal processor with an embedded proprietary operating system and 1 MB of memory. A V34 modem handles the nightly dial-up. The cost of the frame is $250, and Ceiva also charges a monthly $3 for Web space.
