Create Secure and Portable VDs

CryptoExpert 2007 Pro creates new encrypted virtual drives on your PC using AES 256 bit to make your data more secure and safe. It also provides isolation of your data from other users. It supports huge encrypted drives of 256 GB and is compatible with Windows Vista as well as XP 32-bit and 64-bit. So, what is so special about it? It basically creates a container which is actually a file, to store the encrypted data. So, if at any point in time you feel that you want to shift your virtual drive to any other computer, then simply copy the container file on CD/DVD and transfer it, or you can do it via network too and have your virtual drive where ever you want. But, you need to install CryptoExpert on the other machines also. Another good thing about it is that it appears more like a removable disk for you. Even if you migrate from a 32-bit machine to a 64-bit machine there is no difference.

But one negative feature is that the size of the container is not dynamic, so if you have 50 MB container size and the size of data is 5 MB, even then you need 50 MB free space on the media, you are transferring it. Apart from AES 256 bit it also supports Blowfish, Rinjdael, DES and Triple DES encryption. Let’s create an encrypted virtual hard drive with the help of CryptoExpert 2007 Pro. The virtual drive that is created acts similar to any other hard drive on your computer, and you can edit, copy, move files from and even format it.

Creating encrypted VD



For creating encrypted virtual drive on your computer you have to take the help of CryptoExpert Container Wizard. To start up the application go to All Programs> CryptoExpert 2007 Professional> CryptoExpert 2007 Professional. Now to open up the container wizard go to Container menu and click on NewContainer. As the wizard appears, set the location of the container any where on your hard drive and proceed to click on Next button. Now select what type of encryption you want to be implemented on the virtual drive, for example we selected AES (256 bit). Now proceed to the next step for specifying the size of the container. You can specify the size in KB/MBs and apart from this you can specify the file system you want. It supports both FAT and NTFS. It is recommended that for smaller size containers, use FAT and for the larger size containers NTFS. Now, specify the password. The good thing is that it shows the password strength below and also provides virtual keyboard for additional assistance. So now you have successfully created AES (256 bit) encrypted virtual drive.

If you have checked the Mount Container as Drive check box during creation, then the created container will automatically be mounted and you will be prompted for password. Enter the password and you will find the VD on your Windows Explorer.
