New Update

This is a 24-port 10/100/1000 rack-mount stackable switch from D-Link. It has also got four small form-factor pluggable (SFP) Gigabit transceivers. For stacking with other switches it has got dual 10-gigabit stacking ports, which give it 40Gbps of full-duplex stacking bandwidth.

The switch can be configured in a 12-switch shortest-path, which is a fail-safe ring combination for high availability applications.

For further fail-safe operation, the switch also has an option to put in redundant power supply. In features, it supports link aggregation, spanning tree protocol, QoS, VLAN, IPv6 VLAN. Its

security features include 802.1x port and MAC-based authentication, and Access Control Lists based on MAC address, IP address, and/or TCP/UDP port numbers. It also provides a variety of
advanced traffic management options including 802.1x, bandwidth control, broadcast rate limiting, and support for IGMP Snooping. Manageability options include CLI, Telnet, Web, SNMP, RMON, TFTP, Port Mirroring, BootP, and DHCP. It can also be managed using D-Link's SIM

(Single IP Management) clustering technology.

Coming to performance, we tested the switch using Ixia's IxChariot, well known network-performance testing software. The two machines that were connected to the switch had full-duplex gigabit

LAN cards.

In our tests the maximum throughput achieved was 754.7 Mbps, while the average throughput was 738.7 Mbps, which is lower than the rated 1000 Mpbs. The average response time was 0.108 second, which is good.

Bottom Line: The D-Link switch's highly scalable architecture and several enterprise-class features make it suitable

for reliable, high speed network setups.
