Turnkey Linux is an Ubuntu-based virtual appliance library that integrates some of the best open-source software into ready-to-use solutions. Each virtual appliance is optimized for ease of use and can be deployed in just a few minutes on bare metal, a virtual machine or on the cloud. The list of virtual appliances, each of which is available as a CD image or virtual machine image, include Bugzilla, Django, Drupal, File Server, Owncloud, LAMP, Magento, Mantis, MediaWiki, MoinMoin, Moodle, MovableType, MySQL, Openbravo, phpBB, PostgreSQL, ProjectPier, Rails, Revision Control, StatusNet, Apache Tomcat, Torrent Server, Trac, TWiki, vtiger, WordPress, Zimbra,?Domain controller,?Ruby on Rails,?phpBB and others. Each virtual appliance?is a ready-to-use solution that's optimized for ease of use in server-type usage scenarios. The project currently maintains over 100+ virtual appliances, which are packaged in multiple build formats. Here, we show how you can deploy OwnCloud (the other hands-on article in this issue) on Windows Server 2008.

Step 1: First, install VirtualBox on your server. In the VirtualBox main menu, select the TurnKey Owncloud Virtual image and click on the "Start" button. Once the VM starts, you will see the boot loader menu. Select the "Install to hard disk" option with the keyboard and press Enter. This boots TurnKey Owncloud straight into the appliance's installer. Select the default "Guided" partitioning method, which figures out how to partition the virtual hard disk automatically.

Step 2: Confirm the re-partitioning of the virtual

hard disk.

Step 3: The installer will now quickly install the appliance to the virtual hard disk. Usually this takes about a minute. When installation is complete, restart the appliance.

Step 4: The system will now reboot from the virtual Hard Disk. The first time the system boots, you'll be taken to various configuration screens (e.g., set passwords, install latest security updates). Skip the TrunKey Backup and Migration option which you can also set manually by accessing Webmin .

Step 5: After that the first boot will finish and you'll reach the Configuration Console's Usage screen.

Step 6: You can now use a browser to log into your newly installed TurnKey Owncloud appliance. Enjoy!
