New Update

The question we asked this time covered DVD drives, combo drives, as well as DVD writers. But we've kept the title as DVD drives for brevity. This year's results for this category are pretty interesting. While Samsung had snatched the crown from Sony two years ago and continued to win two years in a row, it had to settle for the number two position this year, albit by a very narrow margin. Sony has finally regained its lost crown. While LG had been number two all this while, it slipped down to number three.

Creative continues to hold the number four spot, and in fact, it's been like that for third year in running. Iomega makes a come back to the Users' Choice Club after one year. The other players, namely Mercury and Philips, which were in the club last year, have dropped out due to insufficient votes. The other key players in this area, namely Liteon, Benq, Asus, etc couldn't make it into the club at all.

Coming to brand loyalty, Sony enjoys the maximum brand loyalty of the lot at 83%. If at all there's any threat, then it's from Samsung and LG. The rest of the players seem to be fighting it really out to gain brand loyalty. All face the maximum threat from Sony, as most of their existing owners prefer to shift to a Sony in the future. The only exception here seems to be Iomega, which enjoys the second highest level of brand loyalty (67%). Iomega faces the maximum threat from LG as 17% of its existing owners prefer to buy LG drives in the future.
