Three names dominate this space. Of these, MS Exchange rules the roost,
leading by a wide margin over runner-up Lotus Domino. Sify mail is at a distant
third. Exchange had strongest brand perception across all eight industry
segments we reached out to. Lotus Notes/Domino showed strong brand perception in
services and BFSI segments, but weak response from healthcare, process
manufacturing, and IT/ITeS segments. It was moderately strong in discrete
manufacturing and communication media industries. Sify Mail on the other hand,
was weak across most industries. 90% of existing MS Exchange owners and 50% of
respondents who're like to choose it in the future cited brand name as the key
reason for choosing the same. In Lotus Notes/Domino, initial price seems the
primary reason amongst its existing owners and those likely to purchase it in
the future. In Sify Mail, all users who're likely to use it in the near future
cited brand name and initial price as the reasons. 72% of its existing owners
also chose initial price as the reason. Brand loyalty seems to be generally low
across all three brand owners.
The worst hit here is Sify Mail with only 4% of its existing customers likely
to stay with it in the near future. 15% said they're likely to switch to
MS-Exchange, and 2% each to Novell GroupWise and Lotus Notes.
A significant chunk of Exchange and Notes' existing customers were not
sure/had no plans to shift to another messaging solution in the near future.
