New Update

One notable trend in the inkjet printer market is that of its slashing prices. Last month, we reviewed Epson's Rs 3,900 inkjet (page 98), and this month, it's Rs 2,600 inkjet printer from Lexmark. But interestingly, the cost of the printer's cartridges is a third of its own price. So, actually you exceed the printer's price by just replacing its cartridges twice.

The printer can print at 2400X1200 dpi resolution for mono and 4800X1200 dpi for color, which is pretty good for an entry-level inkjet. It connects through USB and has drivers for both Windows and Mac. It even has Accu-Feed technology, which helps avoid paper jams. As far as printing quality goes, it took a whopping 28 mins to print a full-page color image in best quality on glossy paper, but the wait was worth it. The same full-page color image printed in normal mode took only 4 mins. Although, there was slight banding, the image quality was good. Text prints were readable down to 4-point size.

Compared to Canon's Xnu i255 that we've reviewed in February this year (page 117), the Z605 is much lighter, and if the Canon's price hasn't dropped already from that time's price of 3.9K, then Z605 is more economical too. In performance, Z605 printed at 6 ppm for mono, which is the same as Canon's 6 ppm. Overall, a good buy given the price and performance.
