Sometimes, due to a change in company policy, you have to
switch your e-mail client. If you're using Outlook/Outlook Express, Eudora,
etc, this shift isn't a big problem, as they can import mail from each other.
But if you use Thunderbird, you're in for some trouble, since the others
don't really have an import option for its e-mail yet. So you have to resort
to various workarounds. First go to the directory where it stores your messages.
Here, you'll find two copies of all your mailboxes, one without any extension
and one with an MSF extension. Copy the ones without an extension to a temp
folder and give an MBX extension to each. Then download a tiny 38 KB utility
called Mbox2eml from the Net. You'll also need to install JRE 1.3 to use this
tool. If your mailboxes are huge (>500 MB), on a command prompt run this tool
with 'Java —Xmx512m— jar mbox2 eml.jar'. Here 512 is the memory
allocated to the tool. You can change it to your needs or system specs. Now
follow the steps below for exporting to Outlook/OE.
1 |
When Mbox2eml loads up, load the mailbox you want to export by going to File>Load Mbox and specifying the path for the mailbox |
2 |
Select the messages you want to export, go to File menu and select either Export All Messages or Export Selected Messages. Specify the path where you want to store them |
3 | After the exporting is done, all your messages are stored with .eml extension |
4 |
Drag and drop the exported messages to Outlook or Outlook Express. It even keeps your attachments intact |
