Tablets have taken over the role of what personal computers used to be couple of years back. IDC report suggests that the smaller form factor smart devices are all set to upstage the bulky PCs in the next couple of year or even quarters. Gone are the times when tablets used to be recognized as a luxury device and nowadays you can own a tablet for as less as Rs 5,000. Below are some of the top budget tablets (below 10K) available in the market and widely accepted by consumers.

Samsung galaxy Tab 2

The Galaxy Tab 2 sports a 7-inch display and is one of the most popular tablets in the country. Based on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the tablet packs dual-core CPU with 1 GB RAM. The tablet offers good viewing angles and is fairly lightweight. The tab sports a plastic body that is glossy and a fingerprint magnet. It can be best used for watching movies, reading books (eBook) and surfing web, among others. The battery on the Tab 2 lasts for over 2.5 hours. It is not suited to multi-tasking activity, so make sure your requirements are limited to basic multimedia usage at best. Priced at less than Rs 10,000, this tablet is a good option if you want a tablet with decent performance. So if you are brand conscious, then look no further than Galaxy Tab 2.

Lenovo IdeaPad a1000

Launched recently, Lenovo A1000 is another budget tablet under Rs 10,000 that sports a solid looking, well-built body. The display is not that bright and the looks slightly faded as well and not conducive for outdoor use. Lenovo has added some extra material to negate heating up. The display is mere 1024x600 pixels resolution. The Dolby speakers on the tablet have been placed on the front. So if you like listening to music and watch movie without headphones, then A1000 makes for a good choice. The performance of A1000 is mediocre at best and unless you are into heavy gaming or use tablet for content generation, the tablet will offer you appreciable output.

Karbonn Ta Fone a37

Karbonn TA Fone A37 is a dual-SIM calling tablet with 3G SIM support, so you get both calling and high-speed Internet in one device. The dual-core CPU based slate is one of the better performing devices among India-based brands. It may not be the most well packed (hardware-wise) but overall the tablet delivers quality performance that makes it value for-money product. The tablet does not boast striking design features and looks quite simple. It offers battery life of up to 2.5 hours on normal usage and this one is predominantly for those who are looking for a budget 7-inch tablet with dual-SIM support.

Acer Iconia b1

The tablet supports Dual-core 1.2GHz processor and has an impressive 8GB, which gives it an edge in performance, as compared to the other tablets in the same class. The Iconia B1 has an amazing 7-inch multi-touch display with a screen resolution of 1024x600 pixels. The pixel density is quite good. It runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Other features include Bluetooth, GPS and a microSD card slot. It is one of the few lightweight tablet options available below Rs 10,000. The speakers too, give an amazingly good audio quality. The sound is quite loud, clear and has no distortion.

However, its build quality is below average, it does not support 3G SIM connectivity and comes with 512 MB RAM only which is not conducive for multi-tasking. The battery on Iconia B1 lasts for close to 3 hours which makes it necessary to carry a charger along.

The tablet is small and compact, made of polycarbonate material, but has been given a brushed aluminum finish. The speakers are placed on top, unusual for a tablet and produce average quality sound output. The display is suitable enough for watching movies via USB drive that can be connected on the tablet. The tablet does not support heavy usage but gets your work done with minimum fuss. It also comes with an HDMI port, which enables content viewing on bigger display like your LCD/LED TV. The tablet runs for close to 3 hours on normal usage, which means onthe-go users will have to carry the charger along with them.
