Going Back to Windows 7/8.1

If you opted for the free Windows 10 upgrade but have changed your mind after running it for a few days, then here we show how you can return back to your previous OS

Before you begin, here’s a word of caution: This downgrade will not affect your PC files but to be on the safer side make sure to backup your important files. It’s easy to downgrade Windows 10 and return to Windows7 or Windows8.1 and can be done in minutes.

Once you have upgraded to Windows 10, the system creates a folder Windows.old in which the old version is stored.

Also, if you upgraded your Windows7 or Windows8.1 device to Windows 10 via Windows Update within the last 30 days, then you can downgrade your computer by a quick rollback option provided by Microsoft.

Step 1: Click on Windows Start menu and select Settings from the menu. You will see an option for Update & Security. Click on it.

Step 2: On the next page you’ll find a list of options on the left, one of which is Recovery. Click on recovery option and you will see some options on the right. Click on ‘Go back to Window x’ where x will be 7 or 8.1 depending on what your computer was running.

Step 3: A blue screen will open asking you the reason why you are switching back to Windows 7/8.1. You can select any pre-mentioned reasons, or provide feedback. Once done, click on the Next button.

Step 4: Before downgrading Windows you can always cancel it if you forget to backup something. If your previous version of Windows was password protected then you require it once the process is finished.

Now, your system will roll back to the previously installed version.

Important note: If you accidently deleted Windows old folder, then you won’t be able to revert back.
