The Problem: Within the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) framework, the need for a rational alternative model of first-contact care in rural areas of Maharashtra has been addressed in the form of ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist), a woman community health worker, in every village. Hence, under the ASHA program, ASHA appointment, training, performance and incentive components are very important indicators for effective monitoring and evaluation at PHC, taluka, district and state level. Therefore a need for a web-based application was felt for monitoring the programme effectively and efficiently.

The Solution: The ASHA application was envisioned and deployed by the current chief secretary of Maharashtra J K Banthia and the application was implemented in a span of one year. The programme covers the complete modules of 60,000 ASHAs in the state along with their comprehensive database. The application generates 15 pertinent reports in Excel, Word formats and PDF for further analysis and monitoring.

The Result: Among the many benefits include the efficiency of ASHA workers that has increased. All the modules are being tracked and monitored on a regular basis now. Also, a dashboard facility has been provided for effective monitoring. Plus, summary of search provides all relevant information in a compact manner. Email alert option has been provided.
