New Update

The Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals in India were facing

a couple of problems like lack of online database of Indian LIS professionals,

lack of a web based interface for speedy communication of information and

mechanism that provides the facility for online collaboration and problem

solving.

To resolve this, a moderated membership site was hosted over a social networking

platform, Ning, for LIS professionals (http://lislinks. ning.com/).

This enables individual members of the database to share and discuss their

thought through free SMS, chat, Scrap message, email, discussion forum, groups,
blog, event, note, photo, music, video, etc.

Contents of the site are under strict moderation to suit the academic purpose
only. Till March 2010, this site was able to bring 2600+ LIS professionals under

its reach.

The project used free social networking hosting services of Ning (http://www.ning.com),

Feedburner (http://www.feedburner.com), and Google SMS Channel (http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels/).
