This laptop along with the Series 54 HCL laptop we tested
in this issue fall in the enterprise series of the ME range. The ME series of
laptops by HCL come with unique features like permanent file erase, application
and port lockers, EC2 for fast data recovery, file splitter for breaking down
big files so that they can be sent using email, file encryption, and a dedicated
button for online support. The first look at Series 40 gives an impression of
bulkiness, which is proven by its weight of around 3 Kg (including adapter)
making this notebook, not ideal for those who are looking for a laptop that can
easily be moved around with. The Series 40 notebook comes with all necessary
ports including HDMI, plus a comfortable keyboard and touch pad. One nice
feature in this unit is screen lock, which protects screen in case of accidental
fall.
To check performance of this laptop, we carried out three
tests: for battery, graphics and overall performance. The Series 40 notebook was
able to give battery backup of 2 hrs and 47 minutes which is quite good given
its 15.4” screen size. The results of graphical and overall performance came out
to be 844 3DMarks and 4206 PCMarks. Both these scores are less than the other
Series 54 notebook we tested in this issue.

Bottomline: If you are looking for a professional
notebook as a desktop replacement, then this one is a good option.
