This drive is meant for mobile users who want higher
storage capacity as well as performance. The drive offers 500GB of storage
capacity and has 7200RPM spindle speed for enhanced performance. Such a drive is
useful for frequent travelers who love to have all their data stored in their
notebook's HDD. The drive incorporates TrueTrack technology that provides
enhanced accuracy in high shock or vibration environments. The drive adheres
with 9.5 mm thickness and has a SATA interface that enables data transfer rate
from drive's buffer to interface at 3 GB/sec. This drive is frugal on power
consumption. It draws 1.8W power during read-write operation and 0.7W during
idle mode, which results in longer battery life. Because of its small form
factor and high capacity, the drive can also be used in compact desktop
computers, gaming laptops and NAS.
We tested the drive on AMD Phenom II X4 3.21 GHz based
machine having 4GB RAM. The Hitachi 7K500 clocked an average transfer rate of
85.7 MB/sec with 17.1ms access time on HD Tune benchmark. This speed is faster
to Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (reviewed in August 09), which was also 7200RPM drive
and had clocked 78.5 MB/sec average transfer speed with 17.2ms access time.

Bottomline: This is ideal for mobile users who want
to upgrade their notebooks to higher capacities.
