1. Google’s Android Device Manager

If your phone has access to internet, is connected with your Google account and you have not turned off the Android Device Manager (ADM) which comes turned on by default to locate your device, then you are safe. Just make sure that location access is always kept enabled. Also take care the ‘lock and erase smartphone data’ is enabled (turned off by default). ADM is Google’s easy-to-use tool to track your Android phone or tablet. It is not an app and doesn’t require any app to be installed.

Using ADM to locate your lost phone:

Using any other smartphone or PC, you need to visit https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager and log-in using your credentials. The ADM dashboard will connect your device and provide options- including location of the device, activating the ringtone and ‘enable lock & erase’ smartphone data.

Click on ‘Locate device’ to get the location of your smartphone or tablet.

In case no PC or laptop is available, then instead of using the mobile browser, you can also use the Android Device Manager app. You can download from Play Store and sign in using the guest mode and your Google account credentials. Now you should be able to track your lost device, let it ring or wipe its data.

2. Android Lost Application

Using the Android Lost app you can track your phone, but it should be installed on the device and should have been activated through an SMS, which is possible through any phone (even after you have lost your phone). In case you lost your device and it doesn’t have the app, then you can install it directly from your browser through the Google Play website. Simply navigate to the Android Lost app and click the install button. It takes only a few minutes.

That way you can still use both the SMS commands and web controls even if the google account on the phone has been blocked and google cannot send push messages.

Erase SD Card: This will erase your SD card. No further warning will be given.

Wipe phone: Dont use this feature unless you REALLY mean it, because it will wipe your phone data.
