New Update

This all-in-one inkjet packs in it a copier, scanner and fax unit. It has built-in memory card readers that support CV, SM, SD and MMC cards. You can directly plug in these cards and print pictures without the need of a PC. You can even connect any PictBridge-compatible digital camera to this MFD and start printing photographs. It comes with HP's Image Zone software for taking photo prints. The MFD has both a USB and Ethernet ports, giving you the flexibility to use it over the network or directly from a PC. It supports three printing modes-Best, Normal and Fast-but there are other options too. The MFD supports a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi for its printer and copier. The rated print and copy speed of 30 ppm and cpm makes it quite a fast MFD in its category. Its fax unit lets you configure buttons for up to 75 speed dials and its speed is given as 6 secs per page at 33.6 kbps. We tested the MFD for its print speed and quality. The results were quite impressive. Text prints were quite clear with the minimum readable font being 2 points.

It took 9 secs to print a page with text and graphics in fast mode and a min and 20 secs to do so in the Normal mode. It gave a print speed of 20 ppm. Photo printing was also good as it took 4:40 mins to print a full-page color image in 600 dpi and 7:02 mins in 1200 dpi. The copier unit also did a good job, it gave a copy speed of 20 cpm. We scanned a full-page color image at different resolutions and got good speed and quality. It took 12 secs at 100 dpi, 17 secs at 200 dpi, 20 secs at 300 dpi and 55 secs at 600 dpi.

Bottom Line: A good MFD for small workgroups wanting quick and good quality printing and scanning, as well as PC free operation.
