Bharti Telecom

Founded by Sunil Bharti Mittal in 1995, Airtel is the largest cellular service provider with more than 170 million subscribers in India. Apart from India it also has a strong presence in Asia and Africa covering 19 countries. Airtel is the largest provider of mobile telephony and second largest provider of fixed telephony in India.

Established in 1999 Bookmyshow.com is India's first entertainment online-ticketing company. A venture of Bigtree Entertainment Pvt. Ltd provides services like internet ticketing, kiosks and mobile ticketing. Its in house call centers covers more than 50 cinemas, across the country, to book the tickets. According to bookmyshow.com it holds a 90% market share in the online entertainment ticketing space.

Blue Star

Founded in 1983, Blue Star InfoTech is based in Mumbai and Bangalore. In March 1990, Blue Star InfoTech acquired a 100% owned subsidiary in USA called USIN International Inc. and later renamed as Blue Star InfoTech America. Year 1998 was remarkable for Blue Star InfoTech with the HP relationship turning into a major engagement with the setting of Extended Office in ISD's new facility in Bangalore. In 2003, Blue Star InfoTech was successfully assesses at SEI-CMMi Level 5.

CDAC

After being denied Cray Supercomputer CDAC gave India its own Supercomputer-PARAS 8000. The man behind PARAM was Dr. Vijay Bhatkar, who is often regarded as the father of Indian Supercomputing.

CMC Limited

CMC was incorporated in December 1975 as the Computer Corporation Private Limited. In 1978, when IBM left India leaving all the computers users in a lurch, CMC Limited played a big role in providing IT services in India. It took over the maintenance of IBM installation at different locations in India. CMC limited is also the first Indian IT firm to go for cross-border acquisition by acquiring Rouge International Inc. Its government project like Freight Operation Information System enabled the Indian Railways to boost efficiency as well save money.

HCL

Started in 1976 by Shiv Nadar, Arjun Malhotra, Subhash Arora, Badam Kishore Kumar, T.V Bharadwaj and Arun Kumar H, HCL was previously known as Microcomp Limited. After their initial venture of manufacturing scientific calculators, the company focused on computers and was thus called Hindustan Computer Limited (HCL). After the joint venture with HP was terminated and thus became HCL enterprises which comprised of HCL technologies and HCL Infosystem.

Infosys

Infosys was established in 1981 by N R Narayana Murthy and 6 other engineers in Pune. Infosys pioneered the Global Delivery Model and became the first IT Company from India to be listed on NASDAQ with revenues touching US $100 million. In 1993, Infosys came up with Core Banking System called BANCS 2000 for an Indian retail bank and kept on innovating the solution. One of the major milestones of Infosys was the launch of Finacle universal banking solution which was recognized in 106 banks across 60 countries.

MAIT's charter is to develop a global competitive Indian IT Industry into a world scale industry leading to a world class usage.

NASSCOM

NASSCOM is a not-for-profit Indian group that was established in 1988 with an objective to promote the development of the country's IT (information technology) and business process outsourcing (BPO) industries. The organization has over 1200 members, more than 250 of which are global corporations from other countries including the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and China. NASSCOM has played the role of establishing India as a software super power on the global landscape.

Naukri.com

Established in 1997 by Info Edge, one of the companies of Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Naukri.com is one of the leading job portals in India. According to Wikipedia, till March 2009, Naukri.com had a database of 17 million registered users and over 70,000 live jobs listing.

NIC

The National Informatics Center was formed in 1976 and is the chief science and technology organization of Indian Government. Man behind this was Vikram Sarabhai who suggested its formation to uplift the electronics industry. NIC played an important role in introducing e-governance applications in government departments. Other services that NIC offers is CAD, digital signature certification, Internet data centers (IDC), etc.

NIIT Technologies

NIIT was founded in 1981 by Rajendra S Pawar and Vijay K Thadani. NIIT Ltd. is a pioneer in India's IT education and stepped into software segment with the setup NIIT Technologies. According to a NASSCOM annual survey NIIT Technologies is ranked among India's top 20 IT software service exporters. After 2004 NIIT Technologies was not a part of NIIT group and is working independently.

PCL

Pertech Computers (PCL) was founded in 1987 by Dadan Bhai, an agricultural engineer from IIT Kharagpur. PCL became the first company to overtake the HCL in selling PCs and there is no denying that he was the early star of Indian IT boom. The simple idea behind his success was to export hardware components at a cheaper price and assemble them and sell them under PCL brand.

Rediff.com

Founded in 1996 by Ajit Balakrishnan, Rediff has headquarters in Mumbai, India. It offers services like emailing, instant messaging, music search etc. through online portal. Its other services include social networking, jobs, blogging etc. Its email service-rediffmail.com has more than 90 million registered users. Rediff is also said to be the first website domain name registered in India in 1996.

Reliance Infocomm

The telecom company setup by the late Dhirubhai Ambani when his business empire was not split into two. The credit of bringing the mobile phone to just about every Indian at the lowest of ranks goes to this company. The company can also be credited with popularizing mobile broadband.

Satyam

Founded in 1987 by B Ramalinga Raju, Satyam is now a part of Mahindra Group and called Mahindra Satyam. According to Cybermedia Dataquest Research 2011 Mahindra Satyam is ranked 17 in the list of IT service providers. Satyam Infoway, one of the subsidiaries of Satyam Computers, was one of the leading internet service providers in India and was also the first Indian Internet company to be listed in NASDAQ.

Smartlink Network Systems Ltd

SNSL is one of the leading converged communication systems players in the field of networking. D-Link network interface cards for instance, took the market by storm as low cost and standardized alternatives to a lot of other cards during the 90's. The same happened with their DIGILINK structured cabling brand, and Gigabyte motherboards and graphics cards. The company completed two decades in India this year. Currently, it provides active/converged communication products under the brand name of DIGISOL. While a majority of Indian companies were focusing on IT outsourcing and software exports, Smartlink setup its own manufacturing facility, one of the few companies to have done so in India.

Tally Solutions

Established in 1986, Tally Solutions is one of the leading and popular accounting software companies in India. Tally has now spread its base in more than 90 countries and is said to power 95% of businesses in India. Mainly used for financial statements and taxation, Tally has changed the way people dealt with the accounts.

Tata Communications/VSNL

Formerly known as VSNL, Tata Communications was founded in 1986. Initially VSNL was a wholly owned by Government of India but was later acquired by Tata Group and in 2007-08 was changed to Tata Communications Limited. Located in Mumbai, VSNL was the first Indian Telecom company to introduce the Internet Services for the public access.

TCS

Founded in 1968, TCS is one of the oldest majors in information technology, not only in India but also in the world. With the launch of Inter-Branch Reconciliation System (IBRS) for the Central Bank of India, TCS became the first Indian company to bag India's first software project. It also boasts of becoming the first Indian company to offer BPO services.

Tech Mahindra

Founded in 1986, Tech Mahindra started off as a joint venture between the Mahindra Group and British Telecom Group by the name “Mahindra British Telecom”. With Headquarter in Pune, Maharashtra Company changed its name to Tech Mahindra in 2006. In 2007 company launched the Tech Mahindra Foundation for the underprivileged in our society. With the acquisition of Satyam in 2009 Tech Mahindra has broadened its spectrum serving different industries like banking and financial.

TVS Electronics

TVS Electronics, a part of the TVS Group India, was founded in 1986 under the guidance of Gopal Srinivasan. Just like the automobiles, TVS Electronics had a major share in the manufacturing of the computer peripherals like keyboard, mouse, UPS etc. and that is the reason that sometimes Gopal Srinivasan is referred to as Hardware Man.

Wipro

Wipro was established in 1980 and was formally known as Western India Products. With the passage of time Wipro transformed into one of the largest IT outsourcing service provider in the world. Wipro success story started when they launched India's first homemade PC in 1985. Wipro then continued its innovation in the PC development and also became the first Indian company to design and develop a mini computer in Intel 80386 microprocessor. It was also the sole representative for Sun Microsystems in India, before the Sun office was set up in India, in the early 1990s.

Zenith

Established in 1980 by Raj Saraf, Zenith computers was the second largest Personal Computer in India. It was also considered to be the first company to introduce Laptop computers in India along with UNIX, touchscreen and networking. In 1980s, its products got popular and it became market leader as it launched LAN based system in the market. In Feb 2002, Zenith signed with Microsoft to become Microsoft Certified Partner to provide infrastructure and security solutions based on Windows platform for Indian SME customer.
