Wipro launches Internet

services for corporates

Wipro Net has launched

corporate class Internet services for corporates. Presently, these include

Internet mail, Internet access, Web hosting, and virtual private networks

(VPNs). The company plans to add services such as secure mail, plug-n-play

VPNs, application services like ERP on the Net, virtual education

networks, and managed firewall services.

CIOL becomes a new entity

Cyber India Online (CIOL),

the Internet division of Cyber Media (India) has become a separate company

from September 1, 1999. The IT portal (www.ciol.com) was launched in

August 1996, and has won several awards. These include Best of

Asia-Pacific Website, Chip Web Award ’99, Best Indian Webzine from

bestindiansites.com, Best Career Section from Infoseek, etc.

Datapro offers Web-hosting

services

Datapro has entered into a

strategic alliance with Verio–the world’s largest domain-based hosting

company–to offer Web-related services like domain registration, Web

hosting on a shared or dedicated server, and managing commerce-enabled

Websites. It’ll make use of its 900-channel partners and 215-educational

franchisee partners to market these services.

Makess ERP package on the

Net

Eastern Software Systems

has launched its Makess ERP package on the Internet. Makess on the Net is

targeted at small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) that can’t afford to

invest in hardware and other costs associated with traditional ERP

implementation. Those of you who want to access the Makess modules on the

Net will need to pay a monthly rent of Rs 9,000 for unlimited number of

terminals. The package will be hosted at an ISP and will run on your

browser.

Microland launches

technology portal

Bangalore-based Microland

group has launched, www.itspace.com, a technology portal. The portal

offers domestic/international news and analysis, IT policy and market

happenings, live stock feeds, discussion forums, etc. The Website is

divided into six sections–Web applications, enterprise management, IT

services, manufacturing, finance, banking, and IT policy.

Informatics launches cyber

campus

Edutech Informatics India,

a part of Singapore-based Informatics, has launched its cyber campus in

the country. Called Informatics1, the cyber campus will facilitate online

learning and certification in IT and non-IT programs from several leading

universities in the world. The first program open for registration is the

Bachelor of Science (Hon) in computing from the University of Portsmouth,

UK.
