Since long Infosys has been building browser based applications hosted from a
central location. However, the performance of these applications deteriorated as
the users moved away from the hosting environment. While mobility offers
flexibility the demands for greater access can put a strain on the traditional
IT.
'Infy-on-the-Go' is an initiative under which a lot of workflow approvals happen
on the BlackBerry using the mConnect platform, which is Infosys's own IP. Also
they made some of their functionality available offline, integrated with common
tools like Outlook through which users are able to perform various operations
while being offline from our network, say for example, while waiting at the
airport lounge or while traveling in a cab. They have used the pervasive nature
of Microsoft Outlook to provide key transactions of native applications to be
performed from familiar Outlook screens. They have currently 6 apps covering
close to 15 scenarios that have been enabled on Blackberry and about 4 apps
covering around 7 scenarios through offline mechanisms like Outlook.
After the deployment more than 5000 travel approvals (around 20 % of overall
approvals) have happened using BlackBerry over the last 5 months. They have also
achieved about 32% reduction in ticket cancellations due to on-time approvals.
