New Update

Intel representatives have announced the discovery of a design issue in the Intel® 6 Series chipset, which supports the 2nd generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ processors, and have implemented a silicon fix. In some cases, the Serial-ATA (SATA) ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD-drives.

They have identified the affected part, stopped shipment of the product, and have begun to manufacture a new version of the support chip, which will resolve this issue.

To know whether you are affected and to get the issue resolved log in to http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/processors/chipset.htm?iid=en_US_01_chipset+gg_headline

and follow the instructions provided by Intel.
