Intel has recently released a sneak peek video of its latest Core i9-13900KS processor, which boasts impressive clock speeds of up to 6 GHz on two of the eight performance cores and 5.6 GHz on the remaining six cores. This is a significant jump from the 5 GHz frequency on the shipping consumer CPU (Core i9-9900KS), which was released a bit under three and a half years ago. The i9-13900KS is a special bin of Intel's existing silicon, and the company has not released any official statistics about the thin bin.

The higher clock speeds of the i9-13900KS come with an increase in power consumption, with a base TDP of 150 Watts (up from 125 W for the regular i9-13900K). Intel has also created two official power profiles, a first for the company, with the "base" profile having PL1 and PL2 set at 253 Watts and the "Extreme" power delivery profile raising both PL1 and PL2 to 320 W, which equates to an ICCMax current of 400 Amperes. The extra power will help the remaining CPU cores hold high clock speeds, especially under heavy multi-threaded workloads.

Intel has not specified how the multiple power profiles will work, but it has confirmed that its standard warranty covers the higher-powered mode. The i9-13900KS has a higher clock speed than the regular i9-13900K, with the official base clock speeds for both the P and E cores being 200MHz higher. The P cores have a maximum turbo boost clock speed of 6 GHz, while the remaining P cores can top out at 5.6 GHz and the E cores remain at 4.3 GHz.

The Core i9-13900KS offers 36 MB of L3 cache and is a graphics-enabled SKU, with Intel's UHD 770 integrated graphics. Intel has not specified how many i9-13900KS parts will be available during the Raptor Lake-S lifecycle, but, as with previous KS edition SKUs, there will likely be a limited number of processors produced. The high price tag and limited production make the i9-13900KS primarily an opportunity for Intel to showcase its performance capabilities.

According to Intel Client Computing Group (CCG) Manager Marcus Kennedy, the i9-13900KS continues the company's excellence in the 13th Gen Intel Core desktop processor family and showcases the new performance heights made possible by the performance hybrid architecture. He went on to say that the i9-13900KS will provide users with the performance they need for demanding applications, including gaming and content creation.

The i9-13900KS is an impressive addition to Intel's desktop processor line-up, with its high clock speeds and multiple power profiles. Although it may not be the most energy efficient, it provides users with the performance they need for demanding applications. The i9-13900KS is a great choice for those looking for the best performance for gaming and content creation.
