DAX DX-372DVP-A is a weather-proof dome camera (which makes it resistant to temperature change and moisture) for surveillance and remote monitoring over the LAN and the Internet. In our tests, we noticed that the built-in IR LEDs can actually help the camera to work even in poor lighting conditions. It also supports dual-streaming at different video resolutions. We checked out the camera in H.264 at 30fps, and the quality we got was impressive. The feature of bandwidth efficient compression formats is particularly useful in a scenario where the organization might be facing low bandwidth issues. An added advantage of this camera is that it supports 3GPP protocol which allows users to monitor it via mobile phones. As compared to Dax DX-137G-FN50 (reviewed in September 2011) this DAX camera is POE (Power Over Ethernet) enabled.
DAX DX-372DVP-A comes with a built-in microphone and an audio port which allows 2 way audio communications, which can be used to transmit messages to the area being monitored. The camera also supports 4x digital zoom (of an area you can select), which in our test produced decent quality imaging. Cam Finder is an application that comes bundled with the product, and we were able to detect the camera as soon as it was connected to the LAN using this application. The application further allows you to set your choice of IP addresses to the camera or you can select the DHCP option. You can use this web console to manage motion detection, alarms, email notifications, video formating, etc.
Bottomline: An IP camera with built-in IR LED and a good resolution makes it an ideal survelliance camera.
