iPhone 15 Pro Max Shipments Delayed Supply Challenges

The iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was supposed to be unveiled on 12 September at Apple's forthcoming launch event, could be delayed by a few weeks. According to information supplied by a tipster on X (previously known as Twitter), Apple may delay the debut of the flagship iPhone model owing to supply concerns. With four new iPhone models, Apple is expected to introduce the Apple Watch Series 9, the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra, and an updated AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) featuring a USB Type-C connector.

iPhone 15 Pro Max: release date could be delayed

According to tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), the iPhone 15 Pro Max release date could be "delayed by up to approximately four weeks" due to "severe" yield concerns with the fabrication of image sensors for the high-end smartphone. Apple will likely reveal the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max later this month.

According to a previous source, Apple supplier Sony was experiencing "insufficient production capacity" due to rising demand for 48-megapixel cameras — this year, Apple is expected to equip all iPhone 15 models with the 48-megapixel primary camera that debuted on iPhone 14 Pro models.

iPhone 15 Pro Max: Delay in the production of the top-tier model

It should be noted that the tipster is one of many to forecast a delay in the production of the top-tier model. In a Medium post last week, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple's iPhone 15 Pro Max project was "the last to kick off," with mass production lagging behind other models in the series.

The new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to be significantly more expensive than their predecessors. This is owing to the speculated transition to a titanium chassis from stainless steel. At the same time, the Pro Max model is also expected to include a periscope camera with better optical zoom compared to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

According to Kuo, Apple will likely ship up to 225 million units in 2023, surpassing Samsung as the world's top smartphone manufacturer. The analyst also predicts that the iPhone maker will ship 250 million iPhones in 2024, which may secure the company's position atop the market the following year.
