The iPhone 16 series will be released next year, but leaks have already begun to surface online, offering us a glimpse of what to expect from Apple's following flagship phones. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that Apple's tetraprism telephoto lens with increased zoom capabilities will be included in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This year, Apple incorporated a new tetraprism lens technology with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, allowing for 5x optical zoom. However, the smaller iPhone 15 Pro supports 3x optical zoom.

iPhone 16: Apple would integrate a tetra prism camera

In a recent blog post on Tuesday, a TF International Securities analyst stated that Apple would integrate a tetraprism camera in the iPhone 16 Pro next year. Apple only fitted one model in the iPhone 15 lineup with a new telephoto lens with up to 5x optical zoom and a focal length of 120mm — the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro has a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x zoom. This is consistent with Kuo's past assertions.

According to Kuo, including a tetraprism camera in the iPhone 16 Pro would result in a 160 percent year-on-year growth for Apple's smartphones, with the camera appearing on both models in 2024. He also notes that lens manufacturer Largan is the exclusive supplier of quadruple reflex periscope camera lenses for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with a production yield of only 40 percent. According to Kuo, Largan has dramatically improved its yield rate to 70%.

Apple and Huawei will be the two fastest-growing brands in worldwide periscope camera smartphones

Furthermore, he claims that in 2024 Apple and Huawei will be the two fastest-growing brands in worldwide periscope camera smartphone shipments. In 2024, Largan will be the primary provider of periscope lenses to Apple and Huawei. Huawei's P70, P70 Pro, and P70 Art smartphones, slated to go on sale in the first part of next year, will also include periscope cameras.

Aside from cameras, the iPhone 16 Pro variants may include display enhancements. According to a recent report, Apple's iPhone 16 Pro could have a 6.27-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could have a 6.86-inch display. The 120Hz displays based on low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) technology could be used in the Pro variants. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are believed to have 6.12-inch and 6.69-inch displays with a refresh rate of 60Hz, respectively.
