The company had decided to phase out the outdated legacy systems and replace
them with enterprise-wide on-line integrated database system. The entire
exercise involved extensive process re-engineering, data migration, software
testing, quality control checks, system integration and training. Unfazed by the
challenge, his team conceived the idea of having a data center, set up multiple
RISC-based servers (considered high-end in those days) and connected remote
business units on a heterogeneous network of Optical fiber, VSAT and Microwave.
How did the end-users take it? It was a culture shock for many users, but
gradually after intensive training, they became more and more conversant with
the new systems.
