The JioGlass is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting items from an Indian firm this year. This year's Indian Mobile Congress was a telecom-heavy affair, with possibly the largest Jio booth. JioGlass is undoubtedly one of the most intriguing items from an Indian firm this year. This is a set of smart glasses that link to your smartphone and transform its content into a 100-inch virtual screen.

Tesseract, a deep-tech startup bought by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) in 2019, created the JioGlass.

Tesseract focuses on Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technology development for various products, including cameras, headsets, and smart eyewear. The JioGlass is the company's flagship product, and it is proudly manufactured in India to support the 'Make in India' goal. The JioGlass is futuristic. The glasses are 69 grams in weight and have a sleek metallic grey frame with two lenses. They appear like something out of a sci-fi movie. Comfort should not be an issue in terms of featherweight construction.

JioGlass: How do the smart glasses work?

By attaching or detaching a detachable flap that hides your eyes behind a sleek chrome finish, the lenses may convert between AR and VR modes. When the flap is closed, the glasses block the outer world and immerse you in the material. When the flap is removed, the glasses allow you to see your surroundings but with an augmented reality overlay.

The JioGlass has a 1080p display for each eye, resulting in a 100-inch virtual screen. In addition, the glasses contain two speakers on the sides that sit on top of the ears. To create a realistic acoustic environment, spatial audio is also supported. The glasses must be linked to a smartphone using a Type-C cable, which also serves as a power supply. On the plus side, there's no need to bring around a big battery pack.

In addition, the smartphone can be used as a virtual controller to navigate the interface and pick content. The JioImmerse XR Store app on your phone provides access to hundreds of XR apps geared to various hobbies and tastes.

You can watch films, TV episodes, and sports on sites like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hotstar. You can even link your game consoles or computers to the glasses for immersive gaming on a large screen.

The JioGlass is slated to be available later this year.
