New Update

Kodak has launched a scanner–the i50–as part of its Innovation Series which is targeted at branch offices or company departments which need to scan around 1000 pages a day. We found the scanner to be quite compact. It’s an A4-size flatbed with an automatic document feeder that can hold 75 pages at a time. The scanner has an optical resolution of 300 dpi that can be interpolated to 600 dpi. The i50 can scan at a speed of 20 pages per minute in monochrome or up to 10 pages in color at 150 dpi resolution. It has a SCSI interface and runs only on

Windows.

It comes with the ISIS and TWAIN drivers. You can adjust parameters such as brightness, contrast, noise, and error diffusion for black and white scanning. If you’re scanning forms and need to leave out a particular color to enhance readability of the data in it, you can choose to leave out that color.

The i50 is also quite good with crumpled bills, something common in most offices. Smoothen it and the scan will have almost no trace of the creases.

The scanner comes bundled with PaperPort version 6.5 for managing the documents for Web publishing and e-mail. For OCR, there’s Xerox’s TextBridge Classic 2.0, and for photos there’s MGI PhotoSuite SE. Price:

Rs 105,000.
