Lava’s Xtron and Xtron+ Tablets

The Xtron and Xtron+ come with the same 7-inch display with IPS panel and resolution of 1024x600, which is rather acceptable for a tablet that's priced below Rs 7,000. The Xtron is powered by Android 4.1 while the Xtron+ is based on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean version, which is a big plus. In terms of raw hardware, both of them pack a 1.5 GHz processor, the only notable addition is the dual-core processor on Xtron+. 

Performance

Both tablets are small and compact. You can even carry them in your pocket, albeit with some level of uneasiness. The tablet's body is made of polycarbonate material, but has been given a brushed aluminium finish. Its frame extends to the front, and adds to its design. It has speakers on top, which we found to be rather odd. Plus, its audio quality is also average, so you'll have to resort to using earphones. Additionally, the tablet has a power button, volume +/- buttons, 3.5-mm jack, and HDMI and microUSB ports. The Xtron is loaded with a 3,500 mAh battery that lasted for about 3 hours on normal usage while the Xtron+ with its 3,700 mAh battery ran for close to 3.5 hours on our video loop test. Under normal usage, we got an average of 4 hours on the Xtron+.

The display quality of the Xtron+ is average, unless you are watching HD quality video/movie which is possible via USB drive when connected to the tablet with microUSB. With 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM, multi-tasking should not have been an issue but sadly that part surprised us as the Xtron+ could not handle multi-tasking i.e. playing games, surfing web all at the same time which also leads to minor heating at the back which could be felt. Also, the tablet has lagging issues as well which was visible while playing even the most common games like Temple Run 2 and Subway Surfer.

Outdoor visibility of the display is mediocre for reading, watching movies etc and highly reflective which means you can mainly use this indoors. There is no Bluetooth on both Xtron tablets which is strange and also the tablet takes a long time to fully charge up from the mains.

In terms of hardware, application and web testing, the Lava Xtron scored 9810 on AnTuTu while Xtron+ got 8868 only. In Quadrant, the Xtron again scored higher than Xtron+ with 3710 while the former got 3520 and finally with Vellamo HTML5, the Xtron gave us 1475, while the Xtron+ scored 1370.
