With cyber criminals operating high and dearth of necessary infrastructure
and security experts in an organization, the time seems ripe for Managed
Security Services (MSS) to take over Indian security market.
But why MSS? One of the first reasons is compliance challenge, which includes
incident response and tracking, System Audit Policy, configuration, and change
mgmt. Another reason is security data which keeps on growing at phenomenal rate
and security threats which grow even faster. A reason not to be overlooked is
the dearth of resources for maintaining security. Also, one does not know which
security product to zero down on with an array of security products offered in
the market.
One of the new players to provide MSS is Sify. Its MSS is powered by Security
Operations Center (SOC) in Bangalore and backed by delivery platform using a
customer Web portal developed inhouse. Sify's MSS provides technology expertise,
risk and compliance mgmt, 24x7 security device mgmt, 24x7 device monitoring, and
security information mgmt. SOC provides service tools, service mgmt complying to
best practices of COBIT, ISO 2700, and ITIL.
In a dedicated model, which is mainly adopted by large enterprises, a
customer can have his own SOC which can be handled by Sify. Through MSS, data
from thousands of devices are co-related, thus identifying threats in a much
better way compared to an inhouse security expert who can only analyze data of
his own company. The day is definitely not far when adopting MSS will become
norm of the day.
