The latest anti-virus edition from McAfee adds a firewall to the anti-virus functionality, saving users the trouble of hunting for one separately. The anti-virus guards all possible virus entry points like e-mails, shared folders, Internet downloads, and data syncs with a PDA. In addition to that, it has improved its HAWK (Hostile Activity Watch Kernel) technology to lookout for mass mailing viruses like Nimda. It supports all major e-mail clients like Outlook Express, Outlook, and Eudora.
Coming to the firewall part, it has a Home Networking Wizard to help configure it. A neat feature called Enhanced Hacker Tracking can trace hacker information from its source. For power users a separate wizard is there to create firewall rules based on specific applications, ports and IP addresses. Best part here is that you can see the amount of network traffic passing your system.
The anti-virus functionality works fine, detecting all viruses and putting the ones it can’t clean into quarantine. Overall, it’s a good choice for home users, given the price and the extra firewall and PDA scanning functions. The software also supports all Windows desktop
OSs.
