There was a need for a knowledge sharing platform — in other words, a

corporate knowledge network. The concept of this platform is to start with an

integrated approach to identify, manage and share the information assets of the

organization across all the businesses. Microland, an infrastructure management

services company that provides a range of services through flexible engagement

models- shared and dedicated operations management centers-needed to brace its

employees with a mechanism to reduce time to resolve incidents, and at the same

time, a need to augment existing competency levels.

MicroXchange was a result of this need. It aimed at cultivating a culture of

knowledge sharing along with recognition. MicroXchange is essentially a

framework that facilitates learning through other's experiences as well as

information sharing. The technical articles known as 'Knowledge Objects' claim

to reduce an individual's learning curve by helping him take the guidance of

technology experts. Experts help them when they are at the crossroads of

learning, through an automated workflow which ensures that the published

articles are reviewed and approved by the experts. However, online self help can

be availed through 'Tech Forums' which are governed by a team of subject matter

experts. It provides a platform to connect to fellow employees of the same

technology domain, collaborate to resolve queries through experience and to

capture technical solutions provided for future reuse.
