New Update

The usual trend is to see mobile phone manufacturers gradually cut the cost of their products as months go by. However, Micromax has decided the break the mold by actually increasing the price of the Micromax Canvas HD phone from Rs 13,999 to Rs 14,999. According to Snapdeal's facebook page, the proposed finance bill has caused a hike in customs duty, which has translated to the phone being priced a Rs.1000 more to compensate. According to Micromax, it had booked 9000 units of the phone in less than 24 hours of it's release on Valentine's day. Currently, Snapdeal's website for the Canvas HD displays a bold "You're too late!" sign, which signifies how the phone has been selling like hotcakes.

Understanding the mentality of the typical Indian consumer (who wants more with less money), Micromax released the A116 Canvas HD with stellar hardware configuration at a miserly price compared to its competitors Samsung and Apple. With a 5-inch 1280*720 LCD display, quad-core 1.2 ghz processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 MP back camera ,Dual Sim card capability and Android 4.2 running on it, no other phone provides that level of hardware at the same price range. With shipments being delayed by 10 days, Micromax is offering a free carry case worth Rs700 to each delayed order. While it is not billing existing orders with the additional Rs.1000, one can expect to pay the revised price once it comes back on sale again on Snapdeal.com.

What do you think of this news? Are you planning to still get the Canvas HD?
