The Surface tablets have not been available across widespread markets and with the dwindling response to Windows 8, the company failed to generate much interest for its highly priced product. Moving forward, Microsoft seems to be readying its upgraded version of Surface tablets that are expected to be powered by Intel's latest Haswell processor and running on the much anticipated Windows 8.1 OS. Apart from that, the tablet will be supported with an 8 GB RAM and come with a redesigned dual-position stand.

Besides the Surface, Microsoft is also rumored to bring out a smaller variant Windows tablet, along with the Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2. Reports suggest that Surface 2 will sport a 1080p display, based on Windows RT 8.1, packs the Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and better RAM.

In terms of pricing, the upgraded Surface tablets will be available at $900 (64GB), close to $1,000 (128GB) and $1,300 (256GB) version. Another interesting bit about the Surface variant is the probability of a 512 GB version that will be priced at $1,700.

All this will be confirmed by Microsoft at their event in New York later this evening.
