At the Cloud Foundry Summit, the Redmond-based company announced that they had joined the Cloud Foundry Foundation as a Gold Member.

Corey Sanders, Partner Director, Microsoft Corp. wrote in a blog post, “Microsoft and the Cloud Foundry community are deeply aligned around our mutual understanding of enterprise business and technical requirements, and our commitment to help organisations modernise their applications without vendor lock-in. By joining the Cloud Foundry Foundation, we will be able to work with members to contribute to Foundation initiatives and bring a wider range of solutions to Microsoft Azure for our customers and the community.”

The company also announced back-end integration with Azure Database (PostgreSQL and MySQL) and cloud broker support for SQL Database, Service Bus, and Cosmos DB. They have also included the Cloud Foundry CLI in the tools available in the Cloud Shell for easy CF management in seconds.

Cloud Foundry supports open-source projects and helps tech firms move their workloads onto cloud computing by providing a platform that can run on multiple public cloud services. Users can efficiently move applications running on top of Cloud Foundry to other cloud providers like AWS; they can also use the technology to more easily move applications to Azure.

With Google and Microsoft under its wings, the platform is covering a large portion of enterprises that uses the cloud. However, Amazon Web Services is yet to join the foundation.
