Here is some good news for gaming developers. The latest gaming console from Microsoft - the Xbox One - will double as a developer debug tool, if recent reports turn out to be true.

It is none other than Xbox corporate V-P, Marc Whitten, who has stated that their vision is to empower every person to be a creator. "That every Xbox One can be used for development. That every game and experience can take advantage of all of the features of Xbox One and Xbox LIVE. This means self-publishing. This means Kinect, the cloud, achievements. This means great discoverability on Xbox LIVE. We'll have more details on the program and the timeline at gamescom in August."

Effectively, the gaming console will also run in-progress game code, thereby making it easier for developers to test and modify codes of Xbox games. So far, they had to shell out more for the debug versions of Xbox than the retail ones, which will cost $500 now.

The console thus might become one and the same for both regular gamers and developers, who can use it to debug and test the codes.

Microsoft's major competition in the gaming space is Sony's PlayStation.
