This flatbed scanner has some very useful features. Targeted at home users, it has an optical resolution of 1200x600 dpi. It connects to your computer’s USB port, and installs without a glitch. Like the Canon scanner, this one also has a ‘3D-lid,’ which adjusts itself for scanning thick objects.

The scanner works with Windows 9x/Me/2000, and has useful bundled software like MGI PhotoSuite III SE and TextBridge Pro 8.0. MGI Photosuite is an image-editing software, while TextBridge Pro is an OCR software. The scanner software is not stand alone and needs some other application to send its scans to.

Three scan modes are supported, which include color, grayscale, and line art. A useful option called Descreen mode helps in removing pixel interference, which is substantial at lower resolutions. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast and gamma settings of the picture. The scanner took around 25 seconds for a preview scan when started for the first time on our setup. After that it took 15 seconds for subsequent previews. The final scans varied from 25 seconds for 100 dpi scan to 2 minutes for 300 dpi, and around 12 minutes for 1200 dpi. OCR capabilities yielded accurate results at 200 dpi resolutions.

A good buy considering its price and performance.
