This card hosts eight modems for people to dial into, and can also serve other functions like that of a fax server. It fits into a standard 32-bit PCI slot, the only caveat being that it’s slightly long and requires a moderately big cabinet.

It has standard V.90/56 K modems, which also support Class 1 and Class 2 faxing at 14.4 K. Eight RJ-11 cables, and drivers for several OSs like Windows 9x/NT/ 2000, NetWare and Linux come with the product. Installation is easy and all you need is a free PCI slot. If at any time you need to add more modems, then you can add up to three more of these cards, to have a total of 32 modems.

The ISI5624PCI/8 card costs Rs 70,000. While this works out to an average of about Rs 9,000 per modem, which may seem expensive, the card has advantages over having eight independent modems. Not only do you save a lot of room by having just one PCI card, but integration also makes your task of managing modems simpler. Also, Multi-Tech claims

compatibility with Microsoft Small Business Server and other popular fax-server software.

Overall, the card is a good solution for companies needing a remote-access server solution. Contact: Multi-Tech Computers. Tel: 0124-6340778-80 Fax: 6340776. 249-B Phase IV, Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon, Haryana 122016. E-mail:
