MWC 2014: Nokia unveils its first ever Android running X smartphones

Nokia has taken the wraps of its X-series smartphones running on Android. Regarded as one of the worst-kept secret in the recent weeks, the Finnish-based company has decided to take the plunge towards open source for the first time since joining hands with Microsoft for Windows Phone couple of years back. The devices will showcased the company's press event at the ongoing MWC 2014 in Barcelona.

As expected, the phones; Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL run on forked version for Android which will be facilatate compatibility of third-party applications sans the Google Play Store support. The company is primarily targeting emerging markets like India, where the buying trend is still inclined towards affordable devices.

The first Nokia X phone falls in the entry-level segment, with a 4-inch 800 x 480 resolution screen and a 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. Priced starting at 89 Euros (Rs 7590 approx), the X series is formed by X+ and XL which comes in 4 inch and 5 inch form factor respectively.

The Nokia X+ carries better storage and an SD card slot, while the Nokia XL is fitted with rear camera as well as 2 MP front snapper. These two have been priced at 99 Euros and 109 Euros respectively. The Nokia X series is expected to be available from Q2 this year with India expected to be the first recipients of the devices in the coming months.
