Nashik is a part of the Golden Triangle along with Mumbai & Pune. Conveniently located and well-connected, the city is a fast growing industrial hub having various industrial zones developed by MIDC ( Maharashtra Industrial Development Co-operation) like Ambad, Satpur, Gonde, Igatpuri, and Sinnar. There are about 10,000 small, medium and large industries operating out of Nashik. A few well-known national and multi-national names located in the city include HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.), Mahindra & Mahindra, Bosch (MICO), V.I.P., CEAT, ABB, Crompton Greaves, SIEMENCE, Kirloskar Oil Engine, Glaxo, etc.

“Nashik is moving fast and evolving advanced technology to reduce cost, increase productivity as well as profitability. Industries are looking forward to the advanced IT solutions that can help them to grow”, said Santosh Mandlecha, Sr. Vice President, Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce, Industry & Agriculture (MACCIA), in an exclusive interview with PCQuest at the HP BusinessNow Express tour of the city. “That’s why there’s a need to spread awareness about technology advancement that can help the industries to cater to most of their issues and increase the profitability”, he added.

Industry Challenges

Day-by-day, the market is becoming more competitive, leading to several challenges among SMEs and large enterprises alike. “Most entrepreneurs are focusing on new opportunities to grow their business, but due to lack of information/ knowledge, they are unable to utilize their full potential”, said Mandlecha. Apparently, according to Mandlecha, our PM’s Make in India initiative has come as a boon to the SMEs in Nashik, and entrepreneurs are trying to get the most benefit out of it, yet they are fighting to convert their time into money.

MACCIA is also doing its part by spreading the word about the latest devices and solutions available in the marketplace so that they can focus on productivity, and not just on IT related issues.

IT Awareness among Nashik’s SMEs

According to Mandlecha, earlier people were not tech savvy, and awareness about technology advancement was low, but from the last three - four years, they are becoming more tech savvy and looking for products, so that they can achieve their business goals. He also mentioned about the fear among most entrepreneurs, especially startups, about “the cost” associated with PCs, servers and manpower to manage their IT infrastructure. However, the adoption is gradually increasing as SMEs become more aware about the benefits of technology.

The Trend Changers

According to Santosh Mandlecha, digital marketing is a hot topic among SMBs, which they want to use to spread awareness about their products. Also, mobility has become a game changer, and entrepreneurs are looking for portable devices that have more compute power, longer battery life, and are thinner and lighter, so that they can remain connected with the world as well as be able to deliver more. Also, entrepreneurs are looking for more advanced IT solutions with better utility.
