New Update

NetOp School is a classroom-management software that can be used to give training over a network or the Internet. Places where it can be implemented include university campus networks and companies wanting to deliver corporate training to its employees. The idea is to create virtual classrooms using PCs on a network. The software works on Windows 9x/Me/2000 and consists of a Teacher and a Student module. The Teacher module is the controlling part of the package and helps in assisting, monitoring, and instructing the students on their PCs remotely from one machine.

The software works on a networked environment, be it a LAN or a WAN. It supports all the common communication protocols like IPX, TCP/IP, and NetBIOS. Installation is wizard-driven and pretty easy. You just need to install the Teacher and the Student modules on the respective machines and you are ready to go. There are separate license keys available for the two modules and the license key number you enter during installation determines the module to be installed.

There are a variety of things you can do with the software. The Teacher can give demos to Students and take them step-by-step through a session. There is also a marker utility that’s useful for highlighting a particular part on the screen. The teacher, or the instructor, can also initiate group discussions between students using audio or text chat.

For audio chat, you will need a microphone and speakers to be attached to your machine. To check the progress of the class the teacher can remotely monitor what the students are doing.

It’s also possible to distribute and receive files from students, which is useful for giving and receiving assignments. There is also a File Manager, which makes transferring files easier. The teacher can also execute certain commands on the student’s machine, such as log off, shutdown, or restart.

In case a student is stuck with a program, the teacher can start and run programs on the students’ machines. A student can also ask for help anytime he is stuck by sending a message to the Teacher. When we tested it, all the features of the software worked without any glitches.

The software also has multiple views–Detail view, Classroom view, Mosaic view, and Student group view–to check the number of students logged in at a time.

The Detail view displays a listing of the students, the Classroom view creates a virtual seating plan for the students, Mosiac view shows thumbnails view of the students desktop, and Student group view lets you club students in a group.

Overall, a useful software for online PC-based training.
