NIIT Technologies - Data Leak Prevention Project

The Problem: NIIT Technologies provides IT solutions for heavily regulated industries like BFSI, Travel and Transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, and govt. The challenges that had to be overcome included possible violation of IPR by copying source code & other sensitive data, resource misutilization and malware infection due to uncontrolled Internet access, general apathy in staff towards the need to understand information security requirements and their responsibility. Plus of course, there was fear of a possibility for violation of the IT Act by staff due to ignorance in their Internet behavior.

The Solution: The company deployed a Web Sense based content filtering solution at the gateway, and a data leakage prevention system at the end-points.

The Result: The deployment has helped increase awareness among employees about their ignorance while accessing the Internet. It has reduced the risk of transfer of documents with IPR or sensitive data. It prevents users from accessing unauthorized sites such as those related to porno, drugs, etc. This has helped in saving a lot of bandwidth costs, improved employee productivity, and reduced the risks of getting Trojans and other malware.
